The Dunn Street Shooting
In September of 2014, Officer Terry Mahan snuck up behind a 62 year-old grandmother and, without giving a warning, shot her in the back with his taser.
Although the taser is suppose to be used as a defensive weapon, Terry went on the offense with it when Viola Young got sassy with him and then walked away from Terry when ordered to.
And as you can see in the video, Terry does not like to be sassed or ignored.
And by God, if anyone ignores Terry Mahan, they’re going to pay for it. Ain’t that right, Terry?
After a ‘lengthy’ internal-investigation, Officer Terry Mahan was suspended for only four weeks without pay.
Internal-affairs investigators wrote a 418-page report, interviewed 25 witnesses and officers (officers are considered accomplices and not witnesses). They also considered an additional 35 pieces of evidence in passing their judgement on Officer Terry Mahan.
Terry joined the Tallahassee Police Department in 2012 after working for a decade with police departments in Georgia. Plural, as in more than one police department.
Now we are wondering if he is one of the so-called ‘Gypsy Cops,’ who, after getting an ‘Oh-Shit’ at one police department, resign and then move on to another police department to avoid any type of blemish on their record.
TPD Internal-affairs found that Terry violated department polices related to: making arrests, reasonable use of the taser, failure to give verbal warning before its use and failure to try to calm down the situation.
True, he did not try at all.
And true, he did violate all those policies. But maybe he didn’t know about those policies?
Or maybe he was acting out of instinct? That he is hard-wired to do thug things like this?
Terry, we don’t know how it is in Georgia, but in Florida we learn at a young age that sneaking up on an old woman and attacking her from the rear is an act of cowardice.
And that’s what you did. You performed an act of cowardice.
Shame on you for tasing a grandmother in the back, you coward.
